The Ogdensburg Snackpack Program is a coalition of community volunteers serving the children of Ogdensburg by providing healthy snacks for children in need at John F. Kennedy and Grant C. Madill elementary schools on the weekends during the school year.
We are providing snacks for 353 elementary children in Ogdensburg each weekend. The snackpacks are delivered to children on Fridays or the day before a long weekend or school break.
How to Sign Up for Snackpacks
A survey is sent out each fall to the families to assess the needs of our school community. We also take recommendations from school staff on which children might benefit from the program.
All families are eligible for the Snack Pack Program.
The Snacks
We distribute healthy snacks for kids. The snacks are food items that families don’t have to prep or cook so children can serve themselves and don’t have to rely on an adult to make them.
The snacks currently consist of:
- (2) cereals (such as Cheerios)
- (2) 100% juices
- (2) snack crackers (such as Annie’s organic graham snacks)
- (1) Nutri-Grain granola bar
Our Nuts and Bolts
The Snack Pack Program is 100% volunteer and donation-based. We do not have any administrative costs and we are completely supported by donations and fundraising. Our budget is approximately $50,000 each year. We have 13 committee members who plan and carry out our fundraising throughout the year for the food orders.
We have additional volunteers who pack on the first Saturday of each month. Then each week the bins are delivered to the schools for distribution in time for the weekend.
Accepting Donations
The Snackpack Program welcomes your individual or organization donation. We are 100% supported by grants, donations and fundraising events and are grateful for the opportunity to serve our community in this way.
